A group of residents and business owners in Halifax County Virginia are forming the Halifax County Solar Co-op to go solar together and get a discount. If you’ve ever wanted to go solar, now is your chance! Scroll down to the bottom of this page for directions on how to sign up.

The group is being sponsored by the Town of Halifax, Oak Grove Plantation Bed and Breakfast and Virginia SUN (A program of Community Power Network)

How does the co-op work?

Based on the same principle as buying in bulk, the co-op will go through the process of purchasing solar systems together. The group will select a single contractor to install systems on all of the homes, all participants own their own system and will sign their own contract with the chosen installer.

By going solar as a group, members will save 30% off the cost of a solar system. They’ll also have the support of the co-op throughout the process instead of having to go it alone. This buying group is being sponsored Oak Grove Plantation Bed and Breakfast and welcomes any homeowners and businesses in Halifax County to participate.

Signing up isn't a binding commitment to go solar with the group, however we ask that you're fairly certain you want to pursue a solar installation for your property. We'll use the information you provide to pre-assess the suitability of solar for your site, and to contact you about next steps for the solar co-op.
  • Just type in your address and the map will update. Then please move the marker onto the center of your roof (or wherever you want the panels on your property).
  • Please click and drag the marker onto your roof so that the CPN team can be sure we're looking at the right house! If you'd like your solar system to be in a yard or field, drag the marker to where you would like the solar panels to be installed.
  • About Your House

  • If you have it, please attach a copy of your electricity bill that shows your annual electricity use. It's OK if you can't find it now, but the installer will need it later.

You can attach a copy of your bill from online, or if you have a paper copy then you can attach a scan/picture of the bill.
  • Installer Selection Criteria

We will issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) from area installers to get bids on behalf of the group. In the RFP we will request that they provide information on price, system components, warranties, resumes, references, and information on their business. We'd like your input on additional information you would like for us to request from the installers.
  • Click those that are most important to you. Select multiple answers by holding the command or control key on your keyboard while clicking.
  • Examples might include: offer American-made panels, ability to replace older roofs, offer local job training opportunities, etc.
